1. Hands of Hope Summer Arts Classes - Starting June 8 at Eufaula Middle School and Elementary, Hands of Hope will start up again. Eufaula Public Schools will host art classes sponsored by EAAC at the same time of the Beacon program. Hands of Hope art classes will continue until June 25. Some classes are only a few hours during a one day class (for example puppet classes with Joann McMillan) others are a couple of hours during four days (watercolor with Lynn Melton).

The schedules for art classes are available at the Eufaula Middle School and Elementary, City Hall and at participating merchants on Main Street. Hands of Hope participating merchants can be found by noticing the Hands of Hope flyer in their windows or doors. The flyer has a Black Hand image on the front.

There is separate enrollment for Hands of Hope art classes and Beacon. The Hands of Hope art classes have free scholarships available in all art classes. There are a limited number of scholarships per class.

Applications for Hands of Hope need to be turned into Eufaula Main Street Studio at 105 South Main in Eufaula. There is a variety of fees per class per day.

Teaching Artists include several artists on the teaching artist roster with the Oklahoma Arts Council. Lynn Melton http://www.arts.ok.gov/artists/air/visual/lmelton.html will be teaching Watercolor and be drawing caricatures. Selby Minner http://www.arts.ok.gov/artists/otp/folk/dcselby.html will be teaching Performance Voice accompanied by guitar. Minner is a career singer and songwriter emphasizing R&B and Rock. Joann McMillan http://www.arts.ok.gov/artists/air/theatre/jmcmillan.html will be teaching a puppet class with a performance on June 21, Monday only. Glenna McBride http://www.arts.ok.gov/artists/air/visual/gmcbride.html will be teaching paper making and T-shirt printing. McBride will also offer an adult paper making class for adults only on June 18, Friday.

Other classes offered are making a Dream Catcher taught by Casey Willson, Hand Building with Clay taught by Lawanna Emerson, Found Painting taught by Deloras Frederick, Hair Braiding taught by Paige Gibbens, Real Journalism taught by Donna Pearce (to be printed in the Indian Journal) and Vinyl Collage taught by Beth Parker.

3. Chicks for Charity will be having a Rooster Ball June 15 at RCB from 6 to 10pm. Chicks for Charity is a slew of chicks (and even some guys) in the Eufaula area who get together to do charitable work for various non-profit organizations. This event will benefit Eufaula Area Arts Council, Inc. to help pay for student scholarships during the Hands of Hope art classes this summer. The Rooster Ball will also help keep Eufaula Main Street Studio at 105 South Main open. RCB is on Texanna Road off Hwy 69 on the south east corner. Tickets at the door are $10 but can be purchased in advance for $8.

The Rooster Ball will start at 6pm with Joy Gehringer playing guitar and singing during a light feast with the chicks. Heather Burns, a professional dancer from Norman will perform Salsa Dance. After a brief performance Heather will teach Salsa to anyone interested. The rest of the night will be filled with volunteer musicians such as Selby Minner and Janiece Vest. There will be other live musicians taking turns playing home grown music till 10pm.

RCB is opening especially for this event. They have seats for 150 people and can accommodate up to 400 people. Join in the fun or volunteer to help at a Rooster Ball. For more information call 617-3500 or 689-5362.

4. Felting, Printmaking and Water Color classes - scheduled for July. Felting with kids will be July 16 and an all day adult workshop will be July 17 taught by Leslie Johnson. Bob Walkenhorst will be back the week of July 11. http://www.bobwalkenhorst.com/gallery.html Remember he is a respected singer and guitarist from Kansas City. I heard his voice on TV singing background to promote tourism in Missouri just the other day. He will be looking for other gigs to sing while he is in town. Bob sang at our first big opening at Eufaula Main Street Studio. Let me know if you have a special event you would like for him to attend and I will pass the word.
